I will be travelling to and working in the DRC/Zaire on an NGO project. How much is known about the virus’ present in the North Western part of the DRC? and WHAT can one do to protect oneself ?
Nowadays, no treatment or specific vaccine against the infection with virus Ebola exists, and the mode of transmission is unknown.
The diagnosis is based on exams of laboratory specialized. They are based on the research on antigens or on specific antibodies, or on the isolation of the virus itself, in blood samples mostly. These analyses present an extreme biologic risk and must be practised in specific conditions.
Fevers to Ebola rage are localized in the region you are going to visit , notably in border of forests, but there is no special information at the moment concerning that region. We remain that is only information for you and we are not abilited to give you an actual overview of the local situation.
Further information, you can also contact:
- CDC (Center of Disease Control)
- OMS (World Health Organization)
I wish you a nice travel to the DRC/Zaire.
